Cofidis Rider Kirstie van Haaften set to undergo brain surgery

Dutch rider Kirstie van Haaften is due to undergo brain surgery, she announced in a social media post on Monday.

After moving from three years at the Park Hotel Valkenburg, the 25-year-old, who is racing for Cofidis this season, disclosed the news in an Instagram post entitled "Medical Update."

"One day is a little harder than the other," van Haften writes. "Since the start of the season, I have dealt with a lot of personal stress and I have not performed the way I wanted.

"When I went back and forth to the hospital, a decision was made that I needed to have brain surgery. With a positive mindset, I will have this surgery next Monday.

Van Haften did not disclose details of her condition, but added that she hopes to return to action soon.

"I am grateful for all the support I have felt and received from my family, friends and my entire team! I hope I'll be back soon," she concluded.

Van Haften competed with Cofidis this year on Women's World Tour events, including the UAE Tour, the Flanders Tour, the Paris Roubaix and, more recently, the British Women's Tour.

"We fully support Kirstie Van Haaften, who will undergo brain surgery soon. We also hope to see you again soon on the road Kirstie!"I'm not going to let you down," wrote Cofidis in a Twitter post on Monday.
