'It's hard to see myself in any other jersey' - Toms Skujins renews contract with Lidl Trek

Toms Skuzins has signed a contract extension with the team and will remain with Lidl Trek for the next two seasons. The Latvian has been with the team since 2018, when he joined from Cannondale.

"Every time we re-sign, it seems to get faster and faster because we have found that we respect each other and like each other," the 32-year-old Skujins said in a statement on Friday.

"The direction of the team also makes me happy. We are moving forward and progressing as a team. It will be hard to see myself in a jersey other than Ridle Trek."

Skuzins showed high-level braking in Omloop Het Niusbrod and finished second behind Tadej Pogachar in Strade Bianche despite suffering a crash and two punctures. He followed that up with top-10 finishes in E3 Harelbeke and the Tour of Flanders.

"Every year, I think I personally and the team are stepping up," said Skujins. I think every year I personally, as well as the team, step up," said Skujins. I'm happy to repay the trust the team placed in me when they signed me up all those years ago.

"I was really happy that the team gave me the opportunity because I had nowhere else to go. I think every year I've paid that debt back more and more, and I plan to keep doing that for two more years."

Lidl Trek manager Luca Guercilena welcomed the contract renewal with "a rare type of rider." Skujins' versatility extends to gravel racing, where he bounces between the roles of attacker and support rider on a variety of terrain.

"If you only looked at his results sheet, you might underestimate him, but when you see how much he contributes to the team on every terrain, you quickly realize how valuable he is," Guercilena said.

"The fact that he continues to improve as the level of cycling increases speaks not only to his talent, but especially to his work ethic. Toms embodies the spirit of Lidl Trek."

"He can get results on his own, but he often gives his all for his teammates. His presence makes Lidl Trek better."
