Trek Segafredo Signs U23 British TT Champion Quarterman

British U23 time trial champion Charlie Quarterman will turn pro in 2020 and sign with Trek-Segafredo.

Quarterman, who turns 21 this weekend, is racing for the Holdsworth-Zappi development team this year after spending two years with the Leopard team.

He finished third in stage 7 of this year's U23 Giro d'Italia and fourth in the prologue, but his biggest success came in the U23 British Time Trial Championships, where he finished 44 seconds ahead of Ethan Hayter.

He has a two-year contract with Trek-Segafredo starting in 2020, but will also compete as a stager this fall.

"I am very proud and excited to announce that I will be running for Trek-Segafredo for the next two years and in several races this year," Quarterman said in a video statement. [Honestly, I can't believe it. But I can't wait to start with the team and take on the biggest opportunity of my life. It's early in my career and it's a dream come true for me, but I'm ready to work hard for myself and for my teammates."

Quarterman is Trek Segafredo's sixth new signing for the 2020 season.

The first new signing is Vincenzo Nibali, who joins from Bahrain-Merida with his brother Antonio. The team also signed neo-pros Alexander Camp from Riwal readynez, Emils Liepens from Wallonnie-Bruxelles, and Juan Pedro Lopez, who came through Kometa's development setup.

They lost John Degenkolb to Lot Soudal and Markel Irizar to retirement, but extended the contracts of Giulio Ciccone, Kiel Leinen, Toms Skuzins, Ryan Mullen and Alex Kirsch.
