Mark Cavendish competes in the Tour of Britain

Mark Cavendish and Steve Cummings will compete in this year's Tour of Britain from Dimension Data, an eight-day race from September 7-14 in which many WorldTour teams will tackle eight stages. Cummings won the race in 2016, and Cavendish will return to this race after missing the 2018 event due to illness. Cavendish, a former road world champion, has won the Tour of Britain a total of nine times, with his last victory coming back in 2013.

"I always look forward to the OVO Energy Tour of Britain in September. Having witnessed the rise of cycling in Britain, racing in front of my home crowd has a special personal meaning for me," Cavendish said in his announcement.

"What makes the 2019 competition particularly meaningful is the finish in Manchester. As an amateur, I remember watching the finish in Manchester in 2004, the first edition in its current format, and now, 15 years later, I am really looking forward to racing in a city that is so important to British cycling."
