Chris Froome undergoes surgery after an accident at home.

Chris Froome (Team Ineos) was forced to undergo surgery Friday night after accidentally cutting his thumb at home.

Froome has already missed July's Tour de France after crashing at the Criterium du Dauphiné in June. The British rider suffered multiple serious injuries and only recently returned to outdoor training after several weeks in home training.

However, his comeback for 2020 took a step back when he cut himself with a kitchen knife.

The news was confirmed on Saturday, when the four-time Tour de France winner posted on Twitter, "Can't give a thumbs up for a couple of weeks.

It remains unclear how long Froome will be off the bike. Again, he will be able to improve his form and fitness on his home trainer.

The British rider already has his sights set on the 2020 Tour de France, where he hopes to make history and become one of the few riders to win the race five times.
