Ellen van Dijk (Trek-Segafredo) fell at the Boels Ladies Tour over the weekend and fractured her humerus and pelvis. The Dutch time trial specialist will undergo surgery to treat the fractured humerus, but will miss the Yorkshire World Championships as it will take six weeks to recover.

"My second fall this week was bad luck. I will be having surgery on my humerus this weekend and will be in the hospital for a couple of days. I won't be able to walk for 6 weeks due to fractures in my pelvis (front and back)," Van Dyke posted on Twitter after the accident.

Van Dyke got off to an inauspicious start on the Boels Ladies Tour after crashing in the prologue on Tuesday. She was the favorite to win, but went off the road during the time trial and landed in a grassy ditch.

She was not seriously injured in the initial crash and continued to ride the next three stages for her Trek-Segafredo teammates. A second crash occurred on Saturday's fourth stage, a 135-km race between Arnhem and Nijmegen, when five riders crashed heavily at the 86-km mark, but it is unclear if this was the crash in which van Dijk was involved.

Van Dijk was forced to abandon the stage and was confirmed to have broken his humerus and pelvis.

The Dutch federation has yet to announce an elite women's team for the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire at the end of September, but Van Dijk likely played an important role in the time trial and road race.
